Indian navy thwarts attack on new bulker
Twelve pirates captured in Gulf of Aden after attempted raid on Great Eastern kamsarmax.
The Indian navy has arrested 12 pirates following an attempted attack on a new Great Eastern Shipping kamsarmax.
The navy said the raid on the 82,000-dwt Jag Amar (built 2017) was thwarted in the Gulf of Aden on Friday.
The warship INS Trishul also recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and boarding gear from the pirates’ skiff, Indian media said.
Marines boarded the bulker after the incident.
The new vessel was en route to Saudi Arabia.
